I know this sounds cliché, but we really can stop timeshare scams. How do you ask? We make sure timeshare owners are so well informed they stop falling victims to these scams. When people become too smart to fall for scams the people and companies running those scams stop because there is no money to be made.
On the one hand the problem is not as daunting as it may seem. After all, 90% of all timeshare owners are happy with their timeshares and are not looking to exit or cancel their timeshare. There are, however, over ten million timeshare owners. That means we have one million people, and potential scam victims, to try and help.
Here is how we do it:
Provide clear and verifiable information on timeshare scams. Timeshares can be complicated, and so can the scams associated with canceling a timeshare. It is our job to make information about scams easy to understand and simple to avoid.
Always tell the truth about exiting a timeshare. To be trusted we must be a clear, transparent, and reliable source of information. That means sharing only correct and accurate information and backing that information up with sources that people can rely on, such as the United States Attorney’s Office, the Federal Trade Commission, etc.
Everyone helps everyone. Timeshare owners and timeshare companies need to be clear and unified in their messaging and available options when exiting a timeshare. If everyone understands the process, the available options, and how to get the help they need we will save each other thousands of dollars and years of frustration.
The Timeshare Consumer Protection Center is ready to do our part. Let’s stop the scams surrounding ending a timeshare so that this process can be a simple and rewarding as timeshare ownership.
